This is a TCOLE required course to certify the Law Enforcement official to carry a Patrol Rifle while on duty and deploy the rifle responsibly, with the knowledge of how to effectively use it as a tool for success in any aspect of law enforcement.

This course will inform the eventual rifle operator of the functions and methods of operation of the patrol rifle, the operations of how and when to deploy the patrol rifle, the common malfunctions and corrective actions for the patrol rifle, and the breakdown/maintenance of the patrol rifle. This course will begin and end each day with in-class education as well as hands on application. When the students are not in class, they will be on the firing range adhering to the commands of the instructors in order to safely complete the course and ensure the proper and required skillsets have been learned and can be applied under pressure.

required materials:

Patrol rifle (approved and documented by handling agency) with a sling and a minimum of three magazines

Duty belt with duty pistol and a minimum of three magazines for the duty pistol

A plate carrier or chest rig that can carry magazines as necessary (If magazines can be carried on the belt that is acceptable but an exterior plate carrier is required for the course)

Proper clothing and attire, closed toe shoes, eye and ear protection, shade and cooling gear are required

Hydration source and lunch/snacks are recommended

If you are required to wear or use certain items on patrol when deploying the patrol rifle it is recommended that you bring them to ensure proper training with required gear.

Patrol uniform IS NOT REQUIRED but something similar is recommended to ensure proper training with duty gear

500-600 rounds of rifle ammunition and 3-5 magazines

200-250 rounds of pistol ammo and 2 extra magazines (three magazines total)
